Process: Buying and Attaching Your Vignette

Vignette Process

Step 1: Preparation

Before purchasing a vignette, have the following information ready:

Step 2: Buy Online (Digital Vignette)

Visit the website

Go to the official ASFINAG website at shop.asfinag.at.

Choose vignette type

Select between annual vignette, 2-month vignette or 10-day vignette.

Enter registration plate

Enter your vehicle's official registration plate. Make sure the spelling is correct.

Choose start date

Select your desired start date. The vignette can be purchased up to 18 days in advance.

Pay

Pay by credit card, debit card or other available payment methods.

Receive confirmation

You will receive a confirmation email. The vignette is valid from the chosen start date.

Step 3: Buy In Person (Sticker Vignette)

Find a sales point

Visit a petrol station, tobacconist, ÖAMTC or ARBÖ office in Austria or at the border.

Choose vignette type

Select the appropriate vignette type for your vehicle and travel duration.

Pay

Pay by cash or card. Keep your receipt.

Detach control section

Detach the control section and keep it separately.

Step 4: Attach the Sticker Vignette

Clean the windscreen

Clean the inside of the windscreen at the designated spot. The surface must be clean, dry and grease-free.

Remove protective film

Remove the protective film from the vignette. Do not touch the adhesive surface with your fingers.

Determine position

The vignette must be attached in the top left corner of the windscreen (driver's side), from the inside.

Apply vignette

Attach the vignette to the inside of the windscreen. Press firmly and evenly to avoid air bubbles.

Check

Verify that the vignette is clearly visible from outside and has no bubbles or creases.

Warning: A sticker vignette that has been attached must not be removed and reattached. It loses its validity when removed.
Correct Position

The vignette must be attached in the top left corner of the windscreen so that it is clearly visible from outside.

Step 5: Pre-Journey Check

Before driving on the motorway, verify:

  • Control section stored safely
  • Vignette for trailer (if applicable)

  • Insurance certificate (Green Card)
  • Warning triangle and high-visibility vest
  • First aid kit
  • Tyre pressure checked
  • ÖAMTC/ARBÖ emergency number saved
